Get a better result.
By default the first occurrence of an entry is kept. Case-insensitive matching treats Alice and alice as duplicates, while trimming ignores leading and trailing spaces. Sorting is optional because the original list order may carry meaning.
With trimming enabled, apple and a line containing spaces around apple become one entry. Case-insensitive matching also combines APPLE with apple.

When this helps
Clean a list of tags, contacts, filenames, or inventory labels. Matching works on complete lines rather than individual words, and does not check whether addresses or records are valid.
A little more clarity.
What to know before you go.
Which copy of a duplicate is kept?
The first occurrence is retained. If trimming is enabled, the returned line is trimmed.
Are uppercase and lowercase different?
They are different with Case sensitive selected. Turn it off to match without case.
What happens to blank lines?
Choose Ignore empty lines to remove them. Otherwise one distinct blank line is retained.
Will the list be sorted?
Only when Sort A–Z is enabled. Otherwise the first-occurrence order is preserved.
