Word boundaries use the browser’s language-aware segmenter when available. Reading and speaking estimates use 200 and 130 words per minute respectively; actual pace varies. Character counts use visible grapheme clusters, so a combined emoji is counted as one where the browser supports it.
A 400-word article has an estimated reading time of two minutes at 200 words per minute. A meta description preset helps check a 160-character draft.

Do spaces count as characters?
The main count includes spaces and line breaks. A separate count removes whitespace.
How are words counted?
A language-aware word segmenter is used when supported, with a whitespace-based fallback.
Is reading time exact?
No. It is an estimate based on 200 words per minute. Complex text and individual reading speed change the result.
