Keep the aspect ratio locked to avoid stretching. Presets use a contain fit: the whole picture remains visible, with a background filling any extra space. Crop first when you want an edge-to-edge square. Enlarging a small source adds pixels but cannot recreate missing detail.
A 2400 × 1600 photo at 50% becomes 1200 × 800. A 1080 × 1080 preset fits it inside a square canvas.

When this helps
Make a social post, a presentation image, a web thumbnail, or a passport-size canvas. Verify official document requirements separately: this tool changes dimensions, not head position or background suitability.
A little more clarity.
What to know before you go.
Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?
The lock keeps the width-to-height relationship in pixel mode. Turn it off for exact dimensions, or choose a contain-fit preset.
What does 300 DPI mean for passport sizes?
A 35 × 45mm preset corresponds to approximately 413 × 531 pixels at 300 dots per inch. Check the receiving service’s requirements.
Can I enlarge a small photo?
Yes, but upscaling may look softer. It does not add real detail.
Which output formats can I choose?
PNG, JPG, and WebP are available. The original format is selected when supported.
