JPEG compression balances detail and file size

JPG and JPEG refer to the same format. Re-encoding a photograph at lower quality can reduce bytes but lose fine texture and introduce artifacts. Klyvero compares your original with the exported image, with quality and target-size controls. Work from the original rather than repeatedly compressing saved copies, and verify any required pixel dimensions along with file size.

Resize JPG dimensions before compression when the original photo contains more pixels than you need.

THREE SIMPLE STEPS

How to use Compress JPG

01

Choose input

Choose up to 20 JPG or JPEG photographs.

02

Review settings

Adjust quality or enter a target in KB or KiB. Check whether smaller dimensions are allowed.

03

Save results

Inspect faces, lettering and gradients, confirm output bytes, and download the JPG files.

A FEW GOOD POINTERS

Tips for Compress JPG

Start with the original photograph. JPG compression is lossy: repeated exports can introduce blocky edges and blurred details. Normal compression retains dimensions; target mode can reduce them when allowed. Keep the original for printing.

A practical example

For a JPEG attachment limited to 100,000 bytes, enter 100 and select KB. Disable smaller dimensions when the receiving form requires fixed pixels, then check Target met and the actual output size.

When to use Compress JPG

Make product photos lighter, prepare email attachments or fit a JPEG upload limit. JPG suits photographs but cannot preserve a transparent background.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Compress JPG: frequently asked questions

What to know before you go.

Are JPG and JPEG both accepted?

Yes. Both names refer to JPEG images; validation checks the file contents rather than its extension.

Can I compress JPG without changing dimensions?

Yes. Normal quality mode keeps the dimensions. In target mode, disable Allow smaller dimensions and check whether the target is reached.

Does JPG compression preserve every detail?

No. Lossy encoding can remove fine detail. Compare the preview before saving; an already smaller original may be returned unchanged.

Does re-encoding remove EXIF metadata?

Yes. A re-encoded output loses EXIF metadata. If the original is returned unchanged, its metadata remains.

Should I compress a JPG again after an earlier low-quality export?

Use the original when available. Repeated lossy exports can compound artifacts that another export cannot repair. Try different settings from the source and compare lettering, faces and gradients before choosing a smaller JPEG.
